Here are some tips for moving with pets
-
Visit the vet
Your vet can help with vaccines, quarantine rules, and updating microchip and ID tags.
-
Condition your pet
Reduce disruptions and box attacks by conditioning your pet ahead of time.
-
Avoid changing their routine
Pets are creatures of habit, so try not to change their routine to reduce stress.
-
Use a pet travel crate, gates and harnesses
Make sure the carrier is airline-approved, well-ventilated, and spacious enough for your pet.
Keep your pet safe and secure during travel to prevent them from distracting the driver or becoming a dangerous projectile.
-
Pack an essentials bag
Include food, water, treats, plastic bags, medications, kitty litter, scooper, poop bags, toys, bones, leashes, and blankets.
-
Take your pet in your vehicle
If possible, take your pet in your own vehicle to help them acclimate to the new location.
-
Give your pet time to adjust
Give them space to explore the new home at their own pace, and understand that their behavior and appetite maybe a little different for a few days.
